TeX / LaTeX is perfect for technical Documentation.  www.tug.org
Researchers   use TeX /  LaTeX for documentation, which  generates  pdf
files,  references, click able hyperlinks,  technical figures,  etc. LaTeX
is  combination of  markup and programming language.


Dru TeX is combination of Drupal and LaTeX. It  may work for you.
