Most of the currently available cards have Philips chipset.
Somehow, the cards are not detected saying that some eprom is not
there on the card and then gives a big list of chipset devices to try
modprobe.

Old cards were mostly having BTTV chipset (brooktree or something)
Those were supported properly on linux.

What is your Philips chipset no?
