Nokia signed the deal with Microsoft, it was obvious to everyone (except
Nokia, it seems) that Windows OS had no momentum on mobile. Tying up
exclusively with Microsoft was like jumping into a well with a millstone
round their neck. Having reduced themselves into a hardware player (since
they had scuppered their OS) they should have been platform agnostic and
decided to make handsets with OSes that their customers preferred. If they
had done that, they might not be in the sad plight they are in today.
