[PLUG] Detecting media in cdrom devices

Hello all,

How can I find out the presence/state of media in a cdrom/dvd drive ? 

Basically, when what I want to do is this : Whenever a blank CD-R/CD-RW/ DVD-R 
etc is inserted into the drive, a notification must be passed on to my 
application.

Is there some /proc entry that I can be polled or some application that does 
the same?
