Now there are there are three types of CDs for (K/X)Ubuntu.
Desktop - This is basically a live CD with a new installer. If a newbie tries Live CD and likes it
then he can install it to hard disk. The installer is a graphical one and starts from within the
live session.
Alternate - This is for direct install. The installer is text mode. This CD is needed if you are
upgrading from previous version. Desktop CD is not useful for upgrade
Server - For server installations. Text Mode installer and no GUI. Kernel tweaked for better
performance for normal server tasks.
