Hi,
With fixed IP instead of DHCP ifconfig gives

[root at hackerville ranjit]# /sbin/ifconfig
lo Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
          inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
          RX packets:1273 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:1273 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
          RX bytes:1209442 (1.1 MiB) TX bytes:1209442 (1.1 MiB)

ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol
          inet addr:219.65.88.68 P-t-P:202.54.10.56
Mask:255.255.255.255
UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:697 errors:1 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:774 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:3
          RX bytes:381309 (372.3 KiB) TX bytes:116559 (113.8 KiB)

Is this good or bad? My point is nowhere is the realtek chipset being
named. So should I change this NIC? Sujata said he would change it,
naturally for some expensive thing like 3com which he was recommending.
My nic is not connected to anything.
Ranjit.
