I'm using old numbers with WinXP, not tried linux after reinstalling my
machine.
BTW, I have LSP 340E (older FWP)

My guess is that authentication takes place within the FWP itself (Hardware
modem) Since the username/password is same as your phone number, it confirms
with hardware if the phone attached has same as the number entered as
user/pass.

But this is purely speculation.
