Haven't set up Tata Indicom but normally the idea remains the same
across ISPs. They give you a modem/router and this connects to your
PC/laptop through the ethernet port. The modem/router might be
configured to give out DHCP IPs in case of unlimited connection plans
then it is as simple as switching it on, plugging in the network cable
and booting the PC (or restarting the network services).

In case of limited plan, the command /sbin/ifup ppp0 is normally used to
get the interface up. This would be done after you setup the connection
(a one time affair) using adsl-setup (as root) from the console.

Either way you might need some nameserver entries in your
/etc/resolv.conf so would be good to check out the OpenDNS nameserver
IPs eg your /etc/resolv.conf might just look like:

# OpenDNS blocks

nameserver 208.67.222.222
nameserver 208.67.220.220
