Funny perhaps to you :(  I too thought my desktop was immune to such 
vulnerabilities.  Yes, I am sure the <dir>.exe files were not there 
before inserting the pen drive.

I do not know how the files got installed.   I am suspecting something 
was in the autorun.inf.
