So for those following along, let me note that this isn't really a fork 
but more of a parallel branch. David Woodhouse is working on moving the 
firmware to use a loader that is already part of the upstream kernel.

Turns out that there are good technical reasons to do this work 
including standardization of interfaces, embedded and other use cases. 
It is expected to be merged by the atleast by the next major revision 
(2.6.27).
