I think the two are unrelated. The value in Ubuntu is that it
concentrates on ease of installation, maintenance and administration.
Most open source developers don't concentrate on packaging and
integration with other softwares. That is the gap Ubuntu fills.
Secondly, unless you buy a supported version from Cannonical, they
never claim that they will continue to give you priority support.
If you are really concerned about support et al, you can contact the
sales team of Cannonical and negotiate a support contract.

PS: I didn't understand the point about most (or nothing) of Ubuntu's
stuff being upstream. Doesn't make any sense.
