[PLUG] Kernel panic

Hi
I am trying compile kernel linux-2.6.15.7 on a intel dual core and intel
core 2 duo machine. But after compilation completes i am getting following
lines on booting :

cannot open root device "<NULL>"
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
kernel - panic - not syncing : VFS : Unable to mount root fs on unknown
block (253,0)

I am trying to compile kernel on Fedora core  6.

please help me out
