[PLUG] What are the most viable backup options for linux

I take backup of my laptop on daily basis using a home grown rsync
script since last 4 years. I have restored data properly using
that backup. The script, nothing fancy, just contains lines like,

rsync -az /home/shantanu --exclude ... /media/1TBDisk/laptop-backup
