[PLUG] Is it safe to remove detachable storage mounted with ro, noatime

Is it safe  to remove a detachable drive without unmounting if it was
mounted read-only and also with noatime option? (Or does the latter not
matter?)

Note that, the question is from disk's point of view and not from point of
view of applications that may be accessing it at the time of detaching.

The question is in general for any file system, though if it matters
assume ext3.


To me it appears safe, though not getting any reference to confirm this.
