I will answer this one now and provide more details later.

Yes that sort of was the iso location. I downloaded core, though after
facing the issue, using same CD, I chose all online repos and reinstalled.

Through chroot I have reinstalled everything by now including the kernel,
redone initramfs etc. I can confirm that all reinstalls are ok, since if I
try to do it now, it does nothing as it finds it up to date.

I must mention that my installation is on an external USB drive. I can see
that on booting the installation it sees internal drives but no the
external one.

It drops me to a prompt saying it could not find the root partition.

I have also observed, while in this prompt that module usb_storage is not
found in /lib/modules (which I guess is required for USB drive). My guess
is necessary kernel modules are not getting included in the initial image.
