[PLUG] Yum unable to access Fedora 17 repositories

I found that yum in Fedora-17 is unable to access for installation or updating.

Example: yum update
Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit

It then tries to find various mirrors consistently getting error numbers 14 and 404 from everywhere until it gives it up by declaring:"No more mirrors to try".
Has anybody else faced this problem and found a solution.

The /etc/yum.repos.d shows varous 'repo' files are in place.
