As for current status on Indian languages, while UI localization
happened in past, its pretty much frozen with not much activity.

There are other areas of work which can be worked on like improving
spellchecking, providing autocorrect, autotext, templates etc.

I have set up a page to start with improving the spell checkers.

Plan to have a IRC meeting every weekend. First meeting will
be on 4th November 2pm-4pm. This is precursor to more activities
planned in near future.
