I used the 'FREE' version couple of months on Android device.
Overall speed in 'FREE' version is very slow.
Many time the apps die.
Specially famous app's like WhatsApp,Twitter etc.
At least over 'BSNL 3G/HSPAP' network with 5 mbps download speed.
[tests done using OpenSignal app]

IMP: In the article, pls refer to following line =
-------------------------------------------------------
There is a limited free offering from ProtonVPN but the premium
version offers more features like high speed servers, multiple VPN
connections, servers in more countries.
-------------------------------------------------------

I recently switched to 'Psiphon' FREE vpn service & overall speed is very good.
We even have option to choose VPN servers in India.

Psiphon vpn most of the time allocates nearest VPN server to us i.e.
from Bangalore,Mumbai,Delhi.
But,
1 need to bare with the advertisement in app that appears for 15 seconds.

Few of my Indian friends overseas use this vpn service to connect to
Psiphon VPN servers in India to watch LIVE Cricket matches ;-)
Vice versa, I use this vpn service to watch LIVE football matches ^_^

Regards,
Amey.
