[PLUG] Upgrade ubuntu without losing applications.

Hi All,

I read that if we upgrade ubuntu, some of the
applications vanish.

eg 5.10 has some application. 6.06 doesnt have that
application by default.

or consider some other case
in 5.10 I have installed some application from the
net.

So if I do sudo apt-get dist-upgrade, those extra
applications will be removed.

Pl tell me whether anyone has tried this, or is it
true.

PS: Can anyone tell me how does mandriva fare in
distribution upgrade?
