I deactivated the eth0 thru the system-config-network utility available thru the GUI (system settings-> network) 

itz the same as making eth0 down from the shell prompt using ifconfig.

thats fine that your eth1 is active but how do machine know that the
packets should be transfered through eth0 or eth1? and also check to
which device your wireless is set to. The device which shows the
memory address is the wireless device( also check if there are some
proxy or some firewall)

as i said above I've deactivated eth0. so packets should be transferred only via eth1. 

#iwconfig eth1 gives me the correct MAC address and other IP details of the wireless router.
